Induction of Tolerance to Sheep Red Blood Cells
Adult mice injected with a sheep red blood cell hemolysate supernatant fraction were found to have a severely reduced responsiveness to subsequent immunization with sheep red blood cells. The induced unresponsiveness was found to be specific, as tested by reciprocal experiments involving horse and sheep erythrocyte preparations. The tolerogenic material did not appear to be immunogenic.
متن کاملVariations in the Responses of C57bl/10j and A/j Mice to Sheep Red Blood Cells
In response to repeated injections of sheep red blood cells, C57BL/10J mice produce predominantly 19S antibody in increasingly higher amounts, while A/J mice initially produce 19S antibody and then switch to produce increasing 7S antibody titers. In an F(1) generation all mice responded like the C57BL/10J mice. Backcross data implied genetic control involving at least three loci.
متن کاملPrimary Stimulation and Measurement of Antibody Production to Sheep Red Blood Cells in Vitro
A method for the primary stimulation and measurement of antibody production to sheep red blood cells in vitro has been described. In this system when mouse spleen cells are incubated with sheep erythrocytes large complement-dependent plaques are formed. The number and size of plaques increases from day 1 to day 3 of incubation with an average of 4.4 plaque areas per 1 x 10(6) cells plated at da...
متن کاملTrypanosoma vivax Adhesion to Red Blood Cells in Experimentally Infected Sheep
Trypanosomosis, a globally occurring parasitic disease, poses as a major obstacle to livestock production in tropical and subtropical regions resulting in tangible economic losses. In Latin America including Venezuela, trypanosomosis of ruminants is mainly caused by Trypanosoma vivax. Biologically active substances produced from trypanosomes, as well as host-trypanosome cellular interactions, c...
متن کاملOsmotic tolerance limits of red blood cells from umbilical cord blood.
Effective methods for long-term preservation of cord red blood cells (RBCs) are needed to ensure a readily available supply of RBCs to treat fetal and neonatal anemia. Cryopreservation is a potential long-term storage strategy for maintaining the quality of cord RBCs for the use in intrauterine and neonatal transfusion. However, during cryopreservation, cells are subjected to damaging osmotic s...
